Will my roof have a greater chance of leaking if a skylight is put in?

Absolutely not, all protrusions on a roof have to be waterproofed, a skylight is no different. We have trained with the best roofers in the business and know exactly how to keep the rain where it belongs...on the plants outside.

Will my roof be weakened structurally by putting in a skylight?

Actually it will be stronger, roofs have quite a bit of 'flex' but the area around a skylight is greatly strenghted by the additional framing added to support the skylight and liner.

Will my house be covered in dust by cutting out the ceiling?

We use special plastic sheeting to completely enclose the work area in addition to normal dropcloths that cover everywhere we have to walk, virtually all the mess is contained and removed on a daily basis.

Will I have to repaint my whole ceiling after the skylight is put in?

No! We can perfectly match any texture and paint to make it look like the skylight was always there.

Most standard installations have 1 day of construction and 1 day of finish work with 1 day in between for the drywall compound to dry.

How much will it cost to put in a skylight?

Pricing is based on the size of the skylight, the complexity of the installation and the options added.

Will I lose heat in the winter if I put in a skylight?

To minimize heat loss we recommend (and many building codes require) Low-E argon filled double insulated glass. We also insulate the walls of the skylight well (if applicable).

I have a wood ceiling, how do you do the finish on those?

We use 1/2" X 6" tongue and groove clear cedar stained to match your existing ceiling. These make particularly beautiful projects and can be completed in 1 day.

What's the most common location for a skylight?

Kitchen's are usually first choice, followed closely by those depressing windowless hall baths. Entries, living rooms and stairwells are also popular locations.

Do I have to be home for you to install a skylight?

Only if you want to be, we are fully licensed, bonded and insured and work alone much of the time. We will need full access to the work area and usually the garage. Consideration has to be given to blocked access (stairways, hallways etc) because of the plastic setup to control the dust. Also pets need to be controlled.
